  • 1975 to 1987 Primary School and Secondary School of Economics in Budapest
  • 1988 to 1994 Studied History and English Studies at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Janus Pannonius University of Pécs
  • 1992 to 1994 Associate in the programme for the "Publication of our Cultural Heritage" at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (Institute of History), Budapest
  • 1995 to 1996 MA in Medieval Studies at the Central European University, Budapest
  • 1996 to 2005 PhD studies at the Chair of Medieval Studies at the Central European University, Budapest (supervisor: Prof. Katalin Szende); at the same time visiting scholar at the Institute for Comparative Urban History (IStG) at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität in Münster (March to May 2001) and research and study visits to Dublin, London, Toronto, Rome, Krems (1996, 1997, 1998, 1999) and at the Collegium Hungaricum in Vienna (August to October 2004)

  • Medieval urban history, late medieval social history in Hungary (with a focus on comparative analysis)
  • Social topography and the use of urban space (focus on Hungarian cities)
  • Social and regional networks between Austria and western Hungary in the late Middle Ages
  • Religious life of the citizens (brotherhoods, pilgrimages, processions, etc.), medieval history of urban poor relief
